Procedure and charges for IRCTC Ticket Cancellation

IRCTC Ticket Cancellation (I-Ticket) – Procedure And Charges

Indian Railways has started taking cancellation charges whenever a ticket is canceled. This is done to ensure that only the people who seriously want to go on that journey will book the ticket. As you are allowed to book seats/berths 120 days in advance, if there were no irctc ticket cancellation charges, then many would’ve booked them for fun and those who actually need the tickets will not be able to get them in time.

Here I’ve listed how much charges you would have to pay in different situations.

IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Situations:

If Tickets Are Canceled Before The Departure of Train

The cancellation of I-tickets can be done at any reservation counter, anywhere in the country, which is computerized. A cancellation ticket will be given. No refund will be given in cash. The refund amount will be credited to the account electronically from which the payment was done. Service Charge and Tax is also not refundable. The amount will be refunded a day after cancellation and after deduction of cancellation charge from the fare.

The irctc ticket cancellation charge (Per Passenger) would be as follows:

1] If the ticket canceled is an RAC/Waitlist, the Rs 20 will be deducted.

2] If a confirmed ticket is canceled before 24 hours of departure of the train, then a flat cancellation charge of Rs 70 for AC 1st Class/Executive Class, Rs 60 for AC 2 and 3 tier and First Class and AC Chair, Rs 40 for Sleeper Class and Rs 20 for Second Class will be deducted.

3] If the confirmed ticket is canceled within 24 hrs and before 4 hours of departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned above.

If Tickets Are Canceled After The Departure of Train

The I-tickets can also be canceled at the boarding station, within 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train and

1] Up to 3 hrs after actual departure of the train for tickets up to a distance of 200kms
2] Up to 6 hrs after actual departure of the train for tickets up to a distance of 201-500kms.
3] Up to 12 hrs after actual departure of the train for tickets over a distance of 500kms.

In all these cases, irctc ticket cancellation charges will be 50% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned above.
