If you have a confirmed railway ticket and you decide not to go on that journey and send someone else, then you can do that by transferring your ticket to that person. The Indian Railways allow you to transfer your confirmed ticket to another person. Although there are a few rules and conditions that you must follow to be able to do that.
The conditions/rules to transfer confirmed ticket of Indian Railways to another person are:
Only the Chief Reservation Supervisor of major railway stations are authorized by the Railway Administration to permit a passenger to transfer his/her confirmed railway ticket to another person according to the given guidelines. The guidelines are as follows:
1] If you are a Government Servant, on duty and have appropriate authority, and you want to transfer your confirmed ticket to another person, then you have to make a request in writing at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
2] If you are a normal individual, then you can transfer your confirmed ticket only to your immediate family members. Therefore, the ticket can only be transferred to your Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Husband, Wife, Son, or Daughter. You have to make a request in writing at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
3] If the person holding a confirmed railway ticket is a student of a recognized educational institution, then the Head of that institution can make a request in writing at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. The ticket can only be allowed to transfer to another student of the same institution.
4] If the passengers are members of a marriage party, then they are allowed to transfer their tickets to any other member of the same party. The Head of that party has to make a request in writing at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
5] In case the passengers are the cadets of the National Cadet Corps, then an officer who is the head of the cadet group is authorized to make a request in writing at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train to transfer the confirmed railway ticket of a cadet to any other cadet.
Remember that such a transfer of confirmed railway ticket will only be allowed once and that too only if the above circumstances are satisfied. This name transfer facility cannot be availed more than once.
