What Are IRCTC Reservation Rules?

There are various irctc reservation rules of the Indian Railways. I’ve listed here some of the most important rules you need to know in simplest form.

Irctc Reservation Rules

Concession’s for Senior Citizens

1] Concession’s for senior citizens will now be given only on demand and not by default. Therefore, if you are booking a ticket for a senior citizen then make sure that you demand a concession or else you won’t get it.

2] Also, while traveling, the senior citizen must carry an ID proof which has Date Of Birth (DOB) on it. The ID must be produced if a Railway official demands.

3] Women senior citizen above the age of 58 years can avail a concession of 50% in Basic Fare only.

4] Men senior citizen above the age of 60 years can avail a concession of 40% in Basic Fare only.

1] You can book a ticket 120 days in advance before the day of departure of the train from its originating station. You can book the ticket of any class of any train you want.

2] For some Inter-city day trains, the advance ticket booking period may be less.

3] One one single form, you can book tickets for a maximum of six passengers for the same destination and same train.

4] Any one of the passengers should carry an ID proof. If failed to produce the proof, you will be treated as traveling without a ticket and will be fined accordingly.

To know more about the types of documents that will be accepted as ID proof, click here.

5] Only one form is accepted from a person at a time. Only if onward/return journey is involved, then 2 or 3 forms can be accepted given that the passengers are same.

6] If you have any inquiries or complaint regarding reservations, you have to mention the PNR number given on the top left-hand side of the ticket.

7] A ticket bearing zero amount is not valid unless accompanied by the valid authority to travel who issued such a ticket.

8] Departure time printed on the ticket is just for reference. You should confirm the exact timing of the train before starting your journey. Train timings can change due to a number of reasons, therefore, do check the latest timings of your train.

9] If a passenger misses a train due to such a reason, Indian Railways will not be liable for any claim for compensation or otherwise.

Indian Railways DO NOT allow transfer of journey tickets, be it a return ticket (half ticket) or a season ticket, under any circumstances.

A] If a person is not an authorized Railway official or agent, then

1] If he tries to sell any ticket of half ticket OR

2] Parts or attempts to part with the possession of the ticket

The person will be punished under Railways Act.
